The 2021 Thunder Beach bike rally will be coming soon, from April 28 – May 2. As you head out to have four days of bike fun, keep these safety tips in mind.
Make sure to use your protective gear every time you ride. Put on your helmets, pads, boots, and protective clothes. It’s easy to get comfortable and just hop on your bike, especially when you’re among your peers. However, it’s important to remember that you’re taking a risk every time you ride, and you need to stay safe.
You’re at the rally to have fun, but you don’t want to break the law while you’re there. Don’t take unnecessary chances by speeding and zipping between lanes. At best, you’re in danger of a ticket; at worst, you could be endangering your life.
These rallies are all-day affairs. They have music, food, drinks, and events. Pay attention to your body. If you’re too tired to ride, don’t take a chance. Grab a coffee, relax a bit, and make sure you’re alert before you ride. Do not ride at all if you’ve been drinking.
As you’re driving your car this weekend, be aware that there are going to be many more motorcycles on the road. You should always be alert for riders, and you should be extra guarded during this time. Listen closely for motorcycle engines as you drive. Just as riders should be careful when they change lanes, so should you. Don’t speed up to get around the car in front of you because you could clip a rider. Most motorcycle accidents involve both cars and motorcycles, so practice extra precaution knowing that more riders will be on the road.
Don’t forget that we are still in the midst of a global pandemic. Even if you’ve been vaccinated, it’s possible to carry the COVID-19 virus and spread it to others. Remember that surgical and cloth masks are for the protection of others. Generally, they keep you from spreading germs outwardly, but they are not designed to block viruses coming at you. If you see someone unmasked, avoid getting too close. While you’re out having fun, keep others in mind. Keep your distance as much as possible, and keep your masks on.
