How to Stay Safe from COVID-19 While Enjoying Your Summer

Florida truly shines in the summer. This year will likely be no different, despite the lingering dangers of the COVID-19 pandemic. While we hope that everyone is able to relax and enjoy the lovely summer weather and activities that are starting up, we also wish to encourage you to continue to protect yourself from the coronavirus, especially as there is yet to be a vaccine or effective treatment. Our Panama City personal injury attorney shares some advice that will help you stay safe from COVID-19 while enjoying your summer.

Maintain Social Distancing When You Can

Many beaches, water parks, and other summer venues in Florida are very crowded this time of year. Instead of heading to Panama City Beach or Disney World, try alternatives like St. George Island State Park or the Kennedy Space Center. If you must go to a crowded place, consider visiting during a day or time when there are fewer people and try to stay at least six feet away from others at all times. Don’t forget to wear a mask!

Stick to Outdoor Summer Activities

Instead of visiting the crowded locales mentioned above, try engaging in solo activities in more wide-open spaces, such as hiking. Avoid contact sports like football and basketball and instead play games like tennis or frisbee with friends.

Don’t Share Food & Utensils at Picnics & Cookouts

If you are meeting up with friends or family for social gatherings, don’t share food and drinks with others. Since we know that COVID-19 is transmitted through respiratory particles that can enter your body through your mouth, keeping your hands to yourself while eating should protect you. Wash your hands often and avoid touching your own face when with people outside of your household as well.

Don’t Assume Warmer Temperatures Will Make the Virus Go Away

Many have speculated that warmer temperatures will put the coronavirus out of commission for the duration of the summer. Because the disease was only discovered a few months ago, scientists and health officials are still learning about it.

However, a study published on May 8 in the Canadian Medical Association Journal did analyze the spread of COVID-19 around the globe and found that the temperature has very little impact on transmission. So, it is best to assume that the virus isn’t going anywhere for the time being.

We hope you have a great time this summer and stay safe. If you or a loved one suffers an unfortunate accident, give us a call. Our Panama City personal injury firmremains open and fully operational during this time. We are available 24/7 and can schedule remote consultations for your safety.
