Last week, a snorkeler was seriously harmed as a result of being struck
by a boat. The 27-year-old woman was swimming back to her vessel when
she was hit by a boat that was passing by. The boat didn’t stop.
The reports came from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The woman’s father was able to flag down another boat that then transported
the victim to a boat ramp. From there, she was transported to Hudson,
Florida’s Bayonett Point Medical Center where she was diagnosed
with a fractured pelvic bone and a spiral cut that went from her lower
back to her knee.
The investigation into the collision was ongoing and officials are looking
for anyone who may have information regarding the vessel that struck the victim.
Boating safety is of the utmost importance and those operating a boat must
make sure they are paying proper attention to their surroundings. Failure
to do so can result in a serious collision with another boat or a crash
with someone in the water. Due to the size of the boats and the speed
at which they travel, any kind of collision can result in serious injuries
sustained by the victims.
